Head Coach – Annette Wegner
I have been around the Synchro world for about 30 years now. I began my synchro career as an eager 12 year old (which at that time was considered old to be starting) and swam for many years under the esteemed Leslie Sproule. Following my retirement from competing I began coaching as a means of paying for my tuition at the U of A. I very much enjoyed coaching and pursued Level 3 Certification.
I coached many different levels for the Edmonton Auroras with the highlight of my career being a Gold Junior (12-14) Team Medal at Nationals, something that had never been done by our Club or the West for 13 years, and has not been done since. During my years with the Auroras I also was named Coach to Provincial and National Teams.
My husband and I moved to Gull Lake with our 2 boys and soon to be 3 in 1999 for his work. I was approached by RDSSC to coach, where I successfully ran the Club until 2008. During this time I was the only coach for our "B" and "C" athletes that won many Provincial and Western Canadian Titles. Once the transition into Tiers began I single-handedly coached many Figure, Solo, Duet and Team champions ranging from Tier 1-5.
Although Synchro was a huge part of my life, it did not quite fit in with the life of 3 boys playing hockey for Lacombe - thus the hard decision to retire.
I am now happy to be back coaching with RDSSC and look forward to a very rewarding year with the Club.
